Relying on the Donders Institute’s yearlong study for sufficient training data, Wollberg and Berry aim to equip their AI to operate the Halo device effectively. Through this study, they are looking for gamma frequencies, which are associated with profound focus. These frequencies are a vital aspect of an active prefrontal cortex, a hallmark of lucid dreams.

Prevalent transformer models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT deal with text inputs and outputs. However, Berry’s approach to the Prophetic is different. He plans to use a convolutional neural net to decode brain-imaging data into “tokens”. Then, he will input them into the transformer model to enhance comprehension.

Prophetic’s objective with the prototype is to utilize focused ultrasounds to stimulate the user’s prefrontal cortex during lucid dreams. Studies suggest that focused ultrasound stimulation enhances working memory. Berry draws parallels between this and the feeling of not knowing how you reached a certain place while dreaming. This similarity fuels his strong conviction in the potential success of their venture.

Berry emphasizes, “My conviction strongly comes from how it feels like a quantum leap … when you’re using this focused ultrasound. It’s quite a bit better than everything else that’s been done.”
