Samsung takes Lead, Delivers Bulk of iPhone 15 OLED Display Orders

Samsung’s lead over Apple in delivering the bulk of Apple iPhone 15 OLED Display Orders is remarkable. Chinese-based BEO failed to obtain formal Apple approval for the mass production of the essential OLED panels. Now, it seems like Samsung is taking a dominant position in the production of iPhone 15 displays.

Blue Front Perspective Feature Orange BOE on the iPhone 15 Pro was thought to be providing OLED displays for the standard iPhone 15 and larger iPhone 15 Plus. Moreover, it was also expecting qualified approval from Apple in March. However, Apple delayed it after the manufacturer felt problems with light leakage. This problem was around the portion of the OLED display where the pill and hole patterns secure the space. This space is crucial for the TrueDepth camera and Face ID.

BOE, however, missed out on the opportunity to be one of the first suppliers. The reason is that the problems were very significant. So, Apple eventually decided to cancel the order. The money granted to BOE has now been shifted to Samsung Display. This remark is according to Korea’s ETNews.

Samsung Takes Lead in Delivering Bulk of iPhone 15 OLED Display Orders

LG Display (the only manufacturer of transparent OLED in the world) is supplying OLED panels for both iPhone 15 Pro models. Moreover, it has received uncertain approval only for the smaller iPhone 15 Pro, along with formal approval for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is still expected this month.

This has made Samsung the only company that is now providing OLED panels for all four iPhone 15 variants. And, if we talk about its production volume, it is far higher than we estimate.

As a result, Samsung is placing 20% more orders for September and
October than it did in August. Samsung did this alone to increase relevant components and parts.

For the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models, Samsung is offering low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) panels. This means Apple’s less expensive devices will still not support ProMotion or offer an always-on display option. This feature is similar to the other models of Apple.

Meanwhile, the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max variations utilize LTPO TFT OLED screens. The LPTO panels have a 1Hz refresh rate capability and 120Hz ProMotion support. This allows an idle lock screen to remain visible without considerably consuming the battery.

Apple iPhone 15 OLED Display Features:

The latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models include the Dynamic Island. Along with this, we can predict that all models might come with a more power-efficient iPhone 15 OLED display driver chip. This chip will use a 28nm manufacturing process. This may result in decreased power consumption and eventually longer battery life for all models.

Further, we can expect that the speedier A17 chip will be built on the new 3-nanometer process. And, it will take place in the iPhone 15 Pro models. Also, it will help the devices’ batteries to last longer. However, it is uncertain whether the better power consumption of Apple’s Pro models is due to a new display driver.

When it comes to BOE, it was still unclear whether the quality certification of the manufacturer would be granted in 2023. Even if it were, very few amounts will be assigned this year. It will show Samsung’s exclusivity on the supply of this product.

So, finally, we can say Samsung is taking the lead and supplying the bulk of Apple iPhone 15 OLED display orders. This is a great achievement for Samsung.
