Incredible Porsche-Powered Electric Sports Boat Boasting 536 HP

German sports car manufacturer Porsche has teamed up with Austrian luxury shipyard Frauscher to integrate the electric powertrain from the upcoming Macan EV crossover into a sports boat named the 850 Fantom Air. This will mark Porsche’s venture into the all-electric vehicle world using the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture.

536 HP Electric Sports Boat Fueled by Porsche

A glimpse of this partnership was showcased in June. It closed the launch of the 850 Fantom Air on Italy’s Lake Garda. A permanently excited synchronous electric motor with a maximum output of 536 horsepower (400 kilowatts) drives the boat. It is going to be the same motor anticipated for use in the next-gen Macan EV. However, the power output for the zero-emissions crossover is yet to be confirmed. We can assume that it may exceed this figure.

The Porche-powered boat relies on a 100-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. It is similar to the one in the upcoming electric crossover, fueling a single motor linked to the marine Z-drive through a shaft. Its battery charging is achievable from a DC source at a rate of up to 250 kW. Also, it enables swift renewal from 10 percent to 80 percent state of charge (SoC) in less than 30 minutes. Additionally, the standard feature of this boat is its 11-kW charger.

The eFantom sports boat, in line with Porsche, offers pre-set driving modes for various settings. These settings include Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus. Notably, the eFantom adopts the signature Porsche steering wheel. It is crafted from marine-grade materials to withstand challenging sea conditions.

Moreover, Porsche has designed the seats specially. Also, it has adorned them with embroidered logos on the integrated headrests.

In Docking mode, tailored for harbor driving, the boat travels at eight knots (approximately nine miles per hour). Conversely, the Sport Plus mode unlocks the boat’s maximum speed, a thrilling 46 knots (43 mph). The boat’s range is dependent on speed. At a traveling speed of 22 knots (23 mph), it can cover approximately one hour or 28 miles. A mixed-speed journey may extend the trip to two to three hours.

Frauscher Teams Up with Porsche for Macan-Powered Electric Boat

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air boasts a hull measuring 341.3 inches (8.67 meters) in length and 98 inches (2.49 meters) in width. It accommodates up to nine passengers and offers various features. These include a swimming platform at the rear, a high-end audio system with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, LED ambient and underwater lighting, and a cooling compartment. It also offers a 12-inch multi-information display for the driver.

Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Shipyard, appreciated the eFantom’s milestone status within the industry. He affirms its superior performance compared to the internal combustion engine version, particularly in terms of top speed, acceleration, and handling—all while being locally emission-free.

The official world premiere of the eFantom will take place in January 2024 in Dusseldorf. Initially, the users will have it in an exclusive first edition of 25 units. It is open for orders at Frauscher, starting at €561,700 (approximately $595,000 at current exchange rates). The boats will be manufactured at the Frauscher Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria, with Frauscher managing sales logistics and after-sales services.
